Ride Report

As I boarded the 12 seater aircraft at Wilson airport, I was told that Borana was the fourth stop on our route and so I buckled in for the journey.

On arrival at Lewa Downs airstrip, I was met by my lovely guide Ruth who had some lunch and cool drinks to start our drive to the lodge. On our way to Borana we were lucky enough to spot white & black rhino, elephant, zebra, various antelope, jackal, eland and lots of different bird species.

The riding at Borana is fun, interesting and there is the opportunity to ride with some wonderful game. I enjoyed three lovely long morning rides and was lucky enough to see lots of game along the way. The landscape was so lush and green due to the recent rains and so it was very hard to spot any of the cats but the grazers were loving it and we were blessed with some very close sightings of rhino and elephant.

There is a wide variety of horses to choose from, each with their own personality and quirks. I rode two horses during my stay – Kiki and Arwen – who I adored and wish I could have brought home with me! They were forward going, fun to ride and so relaxed around game due to grazing out on the plains.
