Katerina who has been on 6 In The Saddle rides. Fantastic from beginning to the end | This is a well-run, friendly and fantastic riding holiday destination. The scenery, the villa, the food and the opportunities of riding on forward-going, well cared for horses and meet such lovely people and also not forgetting the family-run holiday, where all the logistics, food preferences and transfers and help are just so professional run are why so many of us love to come back. The riding was, at times, fast so you must be honest about your abilities and be confident in all paces and although you will be matched with a horse for your skills, that doesn't mean you should expect the horses to ride for you - this is not trekking. I would say you need to be a regular rider and have been out of hacks, not just in an arena. You will get the most thrill and enjoyment by ensuring you have worked on your experience and are ready for all the fast and slower paced riding skills required and are happy to meet new people and have a great time.

Cathy who has been on 52 In The Saddle rides. Riding through wooded dunes, exhilarating gallops along the firebreaks. Two days were ridden on the beach with the backdrop of Cape Trafalgar lighthouse, such fun. To get the best of the beach re the tides, one morning we began the ride in the dark with only the stars and moon for illumination. The horses were full of energy yet easy to control and all in immaculate condition.

What better way to spend the festive season than in Spain, enjoying some winter sunshine, great food and drink, fabulous horses, fun rides and a gallop down the beach to blow away any cobwebs! Our hosts Andrew, Rhiannon and Rachel and our riding guides Jose and Roberto were all superb which made for a fantastic week. Loved it and would definitely go again!

Sara (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) My dream South African adventure | The riding was excellent. I’m not particularly riding fit, so was mainly matched with others of the same ability. I always felt in control. The horses are very well cared for and I felt that every horse was suited to me and my ability.
The guides were very knowledgeable and tailored the rides to the group requests. They knew where to look for certain animals and we were able to get up close to many of them. The guides and volunteers were all beyond my expectations and I have learned so much about South Africa.
I asked about swimming with the horses, and they made this happen twice, which was one of my highlights.

We rode over terrain I would never have contemplated here in the UK but at no point did I doubt that my horse would get me safely through. Carol who has been on 3 In The Saddle rides. I only had three lessons, one of which was only 30 minutes in the small indoor school (due to heavy rain). It is not easy to make significant progress in such a short time but even so I was very pleased with my personal progress. I have rarely ridden with double reins and rarely had the opportunity to ride schoolmasters.

My daughter had four lessons and made significant progress on the last lesson so she was well pleased.

Saddles was very comfortable, found my favourite horse Duke the Dun. Love him.

Everyone was so helpful and friendly, had such a blast and many laughs.
It is the best way to see the animals on horseback and amazing gallops amongst them.

Thoroughly recommend combining these two holidays. | Both the Wild coast and Moolmanshoek were extremely keen to make sure we were happy with our horses and gave us plenty of opportunity to try a few out until we found our perfect partners.

Even on the Wild Coast we spent a day and a half at Key Mouth so I could try different horses before we set off on the trail.

Wild Coast Riding - Qolora Trail
Fantastic beach riding with plenty of opportunities for fast canters on the firm sand. There was also a lot of riding in land as some of the rivers were too high to cross but this was a good opportunity to see more of the varied landscape and there were still plenty of places to canter. Some steep ups and downs (especially on the way down to the waterfall) but this was all good practise given we were heading to Moolmanshoek for our second week!

This trail worked well for us as there was ample time to relax over lunches or at the end of the day but still lots of fast riding.

And must give a mention to the guides who were fantastic, especially Jess who was our guide for the first four days when there was just the three of us. We then met up with the other group doing the mini trail, at Wavecrest.

Moolmanshoek
The farm is set in stunning scenery and is miles from anywhere so gives a wonderful feeling of remoteness. We were warned the riding was 'adventurous' due to the steep terrain and it was no exaggeration! I had been hoping it would be tamer than advertised as I'm not that good with heights but, in actual fact, it was a fabulous experience and there is plenty of time to get used to the climbs before embarking on the higher rides.

The horses are incredible, extremely footsure and powerful so you very quickly get used to the climbs and declines, and the saddles are extremely comfortable and supportive, with large stirrups so you feel very safe.

The most challenging aspect was long hours climbing up and down mountain tracks. However, the saddles are very comfortable, the guides outstanding and the horses are incredible - amongst the best I have ever ridden. You get plenty of opportunity to try different horses; I rode five during my week's stay, and enjoyed them all.

Riding up and down mountains is not for the faint of heart! Yet, there was something for everyone, from valleys where we had long canters by the wildlife, to the mountains where the sure-footed horses picked their way along the trails. And the folks at Moolmanshoek are able to cater to different levels of riders. The horses are incredible! They safely carried us on every kind of terrain. Our hosts expertly matched each person with just the right horse (or horses). The riding was amazing.
