Wolves and Wild Horses

5 star rating   6 May 2023

Vikki (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Amazing landscape and nature, enthralling and exhilarating and wonderful hosts | Pedro is one of the most experienced horseman I have met and makes sound judgement of matching riders to his horses. I was matched to Didi who is an endurance horse and was kind whilst forward going, gave me ample confidence and really felt a bond during the week.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The accommodation is traditional farmhouse style but with tasteful decor and woodwork. The bedroom was lovely with a great view and decent size adjoining bathroom.

The food prepared by Anabela and Marianne and was traditional, plentiful and of very good quality. I took some recipes home especially the Portuguese fish cakes.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

The overall experience exceeded my expectations and whilst it was the start of the season, and few guests, I was treated well, felt comfortable as a sole traveller, and felt that the combination of the horse riding, food, walks, yoga and visits, as well as some free time, made the holiday and experience so memorable. I was getting over my own horse passing and felt that this was very healing. Whilst the location is remote, I felt secure and really appreciated the beauty of the nature around me.

I witnessed a wild stallion breaking into the guest house grounds trying to take hostage a recuperating mare, Pedro was there defending his beautiful mare, whilst Anabela was walking one of their recuperating young horse who had colic. Seeing their kind and gentle dedication and horsmanship in practice was very touching and restored my faith in humans in their handling of horses.

Pedro, Anabela and Mariana are dedicated and committed to ensuring that guests experience the beautiful and unique habitat of the Peneda Geres National park. They are all very authentic and genuine people who are really interesting and interested!

I would like to return for sure!
