Lassithi Trek - Crete

Giselle who has been on 17 In The Saddle rides. Lassithi Trek - a mountainous adventure | Yes it did meet expectations - if anything, more forward going than I had expected. Olwen advised me before I went that the terrain is very rugged and rough and that horses in the UK would not cope with it but that the horses there are used to it. And indeed they were - they have been properly acclimatised, so I knew what to expect but it might be an idea to reflect that more in your brochure so that people are not taken by surprise because the other riders (none from In the Saddle) were taken aback to start with.
Vladimir, the guide was excellent and duty of care to rider and horse was always paramount.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

If you are staying in the lower floor of accommodation at Velani, you sometimes miss out on hot water because it has all been used by the top floor (Something to do with their solar system of heating I believe). At least 3 times I was having to wash in tepid water after a long day - the first 2 riding days were unseasonably cold too so hot water would have been nice
(IN THE SADDLE: We have discussed this problem with the ride operator. The hotel rooms and water are heated with solar energy and if it is a cloudy day there is a back up system which provides unlimited hot water. Unfortunately for a short time in April the back up system was unavailable but this has now been fully resolved.)

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

It was just great to get away after almost 3 years. we were a very mixed European group (Belgians, Dutch and Germans) but we all got on very well which always helps. The food really was excellent but desserts were not exactly advertised - if one wanted one always had to ask for it- ie it was not offered so one was not always encouraged to ask.
