Horseback is such a fantastic way to see this amazing country. It is truly the only way to experience both the historical and modern lifestyles of this remote land. The culture still embraces the horse as primary means of transportation in this era.

Day 1 started off in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, where we met our leader and translator, Paulo, then began our transfer by truck to Cambará do Sul and the Pousada Courucacas. We arrived with enough time in the afternoon to tour the lovely Fazenda Baio Ruano with it’s lovely waterfall (cachoiera) and enjoy a fabulous meal in town. The gracious owner of the family run restaurant was also our driver for the evening. We enjoyed home-made grappa and organic vegetables grown in the adjoining family garden.
