Where is North Macedonia?

North Macedonia is situated in South-eastern Europe. It is bordered by Bulgaria to the east, Albania to the west, Serbia and Kosovo to the north and Greece to the south.

Wide open areas allow for some faster riding.

The ride is in the North-western corner of North Macedonia and only a few hours from the capital, Skopje.

What can I do in North Macedonia?

The Miyak Tribe trail is a seven night itinerary travelling through rural countryside, over mountains and through National Park.

If you don’t have time to experience the full seven night ride, there is also the option to join the Bucephalus Trail. This is the first five nights of the Miyak Tribe Trail. After the first night camping, the guests on the Miyak Tribe Trail will continue their ride from camp to the next location and the guests on the Bucephalus Trail will ride from camp back to the ranch.

Why should I ride in North Macedonia?

National parks, snow-capped mountains, pine forests, rolling green hills and fields littered with wildflowers – what could be more perfect for a riding holiday. This holiday is for those who enjoy the mountains’ treasures and are up for pitching in and helping with the horses.

The pace is dictated by the terrain – sometimes you’ll need to dismount and lead your horse

One of the most special experiences on the Miyak Tribe trail is the ‘sunrise ride’. After your last night in the mountains, wake up before dawn (around 03:00), and ride to the highest peak of Medenica and watch the sunrise.

If you are fit, ready for an adventure and love riding forward going horses, this could be the ride for you. The trail covers 15 to 44km each day and the hours in the saddle vary from five to nine.

When should I visit North Macedonia?

North Macedonia’s climate features hot summers and cold winters. Therefore, May to October is an excellent time to visit because it’s the warmest and driest time of year. There are usually 2 – 3 trails scheduled for each month throughout the season.

Where the terrain allows, the pace can pick up for some faster trots and canters
