In this ‘Spotlight On’ series, each blog will focus on a single riding destination. We’ll give you the inside scoop on why we think this particular adventure has simply got to be on your riding holiday wish list.
Today’s destination is Estancia Los Potreros in Argentina.

The estancia sits in a secluded spot at the top of the Sierras Chicas hills, in the Córdoba region of Argentina. Lying between the pampas and the Andes, this area is known for its stunning scenery, wildlife and strong rural traditions.
Despite being tucked away, Los Potreros is only an hour’s drive from Córdoba airport.
One thing everyone loves about Los Potreros is that each day on the estancia is different. One day you might canter along grassy hilltops until you reach the ‘Top of the World’ viewpoint.

Another day you might ride to the waterfall for a picnic and a swim in the natural rock pool.

You can help the gauchos round up the young horses, try your hand and lassoing, or gather and move cattle into the corrals.

Informal polo is usually played weekly on the estancia, so you can also try your hand at this fun, very addictive game!

When you’re not riding, explore the estancia lands on foot on walking routes from one hour wanders to full day hikes. Grab some binoculars and head out for some birdwatching – the estancia has varied birdlife including kestrels, falcons, hummingbirds, nightjars, plovers and owls. Or if it’s time to relax, then recline in a hammock, sip a G&T on the veranda, take a swim in the pool, or simply sit in the garden and watch the world go by.
There are many reasons to visit Los Potreros, from the varied riding and scenery, to the gorgeous accommodation and amazing food. But our guests always comment on the quality of the horses and the warm welcome, which is second to none.

With over one hundred horses, you won’t be short of choice at Los Potreros. The much-loved herd contains smooth-gaited Peruvian Pasos, powerful polo ponies and versatile Criollos of all shapes, sizes and temperaments. Generally, you ride different horses each day and choose your favourite to ride again at the end of your stay.

The estancia has a really warm, sociable feel thanks to owner Kevin, his house manager and staff. There’s always someone to chat to, meaning Los Potreros caters brilliantly for people travelling alone, as well as families and groups.

The Córdoba region is known for its good weather and healthy climate – “siempre de temporada”, or ‘always in season’, as the saying goes. Los Potreros is open all year, with the exception of May and June.
The summer months of November to March are beautifully warm (c. 27-31ºC). Rain can fall during this time, although it rarely affects riding activities. During winter (June to August), it is usually sunny and warm in the middle of the day (c. 17-22ºC), with temperatures dropping at night.
