Bush & Beach
Please note that the following itinerary is the planned ride. The day by
day route and the overnight stops may occasionally change depending on
local weather conditions but always with your best interests in mind.
Day 1 – Sunday
The meeting point is 1pm at the RACV Noosa Resort. If flying in you should aim to arrive at the Sunshine Coast Airport by 12 noon or into Brisbane by 10:30.
You should take an early lunch today; those being collected at the airport will be taken to Hastings Street in Noosa where there are lots of places for lunch.
Once everyone has arrived at 1pm at the meeting point at the RACV Noosa Resort you are taken to the horses’ base at Verrierdale (20 minutes from Noosa) to be introduced to the wonderful Australian Stock Horses. This introduction will include a familiarisation session on basic horsemanship and caring for your horse. It will be followed by a short “getting to know you” orientation ride of about one hour.
[If there has been a lot of rain at the coast making the paddocks at Verrierdale unsuitable, then the orientation ride will take place at Kilkivan. If some of the group have been delayed arriving then the orientation ride might be deferred until the following morning.]
After the orientation ride at Verrierdale everyone is transferred to Kilkivan, a transfer of approximately 1.5 hours.
Overnight at The Left Bank in Kilkivan where you stay for the next two nights.
Pre dinner drinks will be served in the lounge or on the veranda followed by dinner in the dining room.
Day 2 – Monday
After breakfast head over to the paddocks to groom and tack up the horses.
Today’s ride is over the Black Snake Range. You climb the “Hanging Rock” trail a historic stock route over the Black Snake Range. This is one of the trails used for the annual Kilkivan Great Horse Ride. The ride starts from the site of the old Kilkivan township where gold was first discovered in Queensland.
Spectacular mountain views are a feature of today’s ride before you descend into Widgee Valley and the ride features a wide variety of forest and unique flora.
Enjoy a BBQ lunch on Edenview, the cattle property of your guide Alex Watson. Later transfer to your accommodation at The Left Bank. You may choose to explore the town or just relax. It may be possible to visit Goomeri Emporium, a local riding store.
Pre dinner drinks will be served in the lounge or on the veranda, then dinner in the dining room. Riding time c. 4 hours.
Day 3 – Tuesday
Today you ride over Edenview, a 640 acre cattle and horse property. Try your hand at some cattle mustering.
You have a BBQ lunch on the property.
Later you are transferred to the beautiful Amamoor Lodge in the heart of the Mary River Valley. Be introduced to your hosts for the next two days – Malcolm and Christine.
Tonight drinks are around the fire before moving over to the veranda for dinner. Riding time today about 4 hours.
Day 4 Wednesday
Saddle up for a ride through the Amamoor State Forest which is full of Bunya Pines and amazing vistas, including Skyring Lookout. Picnic lunch at Amama Park followed by a ride back to Amamoor Lodge.
Riding time about 4.5 hours.
Day 5 Thursday
With bags packed again this morning, load up the horses and depart for the Noosa Trail Network. You will stop for lunch on the trail, dependent upon the trail that has been chosen for the day.
Depart for Noosa and check into your luxury accommodation at the RACV Noosa Resort for the next two nights.
Dinner at the resort or one of Noosa’s many fine restaurants. Riding time approximately 4 hours.
Day 6 Friday
After breakfast transfer over to Noosa North Shore and ride through the bush to the spectacular Laguna Bay and Teewah Beach for a memorable ride along the pristine Noosa North Shore. A great way to end the trip.
Return to Noosa for a light lunch then return to your accommodation and spend the afternoon relaxing with a massage, spa treatments (payable locally) or explore Noosa’s famous Hastings Street, the beach or the National Park.
Before dinner your guide Alex will arrive to settle any extra accounts (airport transfers and Equathon product purchases, if any) and then take you to a restaurant on Gympie Terrace along the Noosa River precinct for a memorable dinner to conclude a wonderful week of riding. There will be many stories to tell around the table tonight. Riding time today about 2 hours.
