Countryside and Villages
Below is a sample itinerary illustrating what may occur. Please note
that local conditions, weather and the ability of the group can cause
the itinerary to change, but always with your best interests in mind.
You should aim to arrive at La Vallee des Cerfs after 4pm. On arrival,
settle into your room and if there is time, have a look at the horses. In the evening you will have dinner with your hosts. You will also have
the opportunity to study the maps and take a look at the routes you will be
taking on the days ahead.
Take bridle paths through the valley of the Vienne, stopping to picnic on the banks of the river. Continue over the viaduct with nice views of the valley below. In the afternoon follow old railway lines, ideal for some trots or canters.
Overnight in an old farmhouse.
Ride through farms to the village of Nerignac in the Blourde valley. Picnic next to the lake of Adriers where you may be able to take the horses for a swim and swim with them.
Overnight at an old farmhouse enjoying a meal with ingredients sourced from the farm.
Ride along sandy tracks to the Gartempe River in Saulgé. Continue to Montmorillon, a town full of art and history and famous for its frescoes.
Overnight at a farm in near the town.
Ride by the pretty hamlet of Moussac, then journey along the banks of the Gartempe. Here the landscape becomes more wild and rocky. Picnic at an old watermill. In the afternoon ride past several ancient castles and the roc d’Enfer to your overnight stop at a local farmhouse.
On today’s ride the landscape becomes more hilly and you will ford the river several times. You may see Limousine cattle out in the fields. Lunch is a picnic at the old manor house before returning to Cerfcheval in the afternoon.
