This centre based riding holiday will give you the opportunity to explore the beaches of the coast north of Auckland. Some of the riding here is on the Muriwai Beach known as the 30 mile beach along which the horses just love to gallop. Venturing inland you ride over sand dunes and through a patchwork of farmland, forests and lakes.
Your host and guide Rod is a descendant of the first European settlers in the area. Rod first started riding on the family horse to school and has extensive knowledge of local history, plants and animals.
Nights are spent at Rod and Bev’s home which has views out over Kaipara Harbour and can sleep up to six guests. Although they prefer not to mix the groups occasionally there may have others staying.
Non-riders are also welcome. If you have your own car then the surrounding area has much of interest including a variety of farming from kiwi fruit orchards to macadamia nuts as well as sheep cattle, dairy and deer farming.
You should be comfortable at walk, trot and canter, and able to control a forward going horse out in the open. You should also be fit enough for long canters on the beaches.
You stay in the home of your hosts Bev and Rod Hedley. There are two twin rooms and one double room for guests.
Meals are prepared by Bev who takes great care to provide you with delicious dinners. Local produce is used wherever possible.
Available all year. A typical stay is four nights but itineraries are tailor-made and so longer or shorter stays are also possible. We recommend somewhere between two and six nights.

Cantering along a beach was one of my dreams - the final day's riding was above my expectations. and I've fallen in love with one of my horses. Nothing to add. Rodrick and Georgie were wonderful riding companions, and so caring and thoughtful. it was really pleasure to spend time with the family. The riding felt relaxed and fun, so the whole experience was very special.
