Spain - Sierra Nevada Short Break
On the Poqueira short break (four nights) you stay four nights in the comfortable Casa la Sevillana in Bubion. The village is small, quiet and charming. It has some very nice little restaurants and small bars, perfect for a relaxing evening.
On the Horse About Short Break (four nights) you stay four nights in the comfortable Casa la Sevillana in Bubion. This itinerary has less riding in the saddle (c. 3 hours per day) and there is more focus on ground-work (grooming, lunging, tacking up etc.).
On the Sulayr short break (four nights) you have the first two nights in Bubion, then on your second day of riding you set off on a trail ride to Trevelez, the highest village in Spain. After a night in Trevelez, you ride back to Bubion by a different route.
On the Alpujarra short break (five nights) you ride between three villages – Bubion (two nights), Trevelez (two nights) and Berchules (one night). This is a shortened version of our seven night Alpujarra Ride.
The routes are planned so that you ride over different terrain each day. One day you follow small paths high into the mountains, with views on a clear day of the Mediterranean in one direction and the highest peaks in the other. On other days you take slightly lower routes where the many forest tracks allow for a faster pace.

The horses are Andalucian and Andalucian crosses and have all been schooled by their owner and your guide Dallas Love. They are fit, surefooted and responsive with the classic good nature of the breed, enjoying their work and a pleasure to ride.
The horses are usually ridden in English bridles and each horse will also have their own saddle. Normally these are an English style general purpose/endurance type of saddle, and are very comfortable. You are expected to tack up and groom your horse, although assistance is available if you need help.
You should be competent at walk, trot and canter outdoors, with good riding balance. The steep terrain dictates the pace but there are occasional places for trots and canters. You need to be able to mount from the ground and from both sides of the horse.
In Bubion you will stay in the comfortable Casa la Sevillana.
On the Sulayr and Alpujarra short breaks you stay in Trevelez (the highest village in Spain), normally at Hotel La Fragua.
On the Alpujarra short break you also stay in Berchules, normally at Hotel Berchules.
Short breaks already scheduled are shown below. Two itineraries can run at the same with a maximum number of eight guests. The Poqueira and Horse About short breaks will be guaranteed with two guests and the Sulayr and Alpujarra short breaks with three guests.
Additional dates may be possible on request (minimum two guests) and are subject to availability.

SINGLE SUPPLEMENT No single supplement if willing to share. A limited number of single rooms are available at a payable locally supplement of €100 for Poqueira, Horse About and Sulayr short breaks and €150 for Alpujarra short break.
SMALL GROUP SUPPLEMENT
The Poqueira, Horse About and Sulayr short breaks require a minimum of two people to confirm to run and there is a small group supplement if there are less than 4 people in the group. The supplement is payable locally and costs €60 per person.
The Alpujarra Short Break requires a minimum of three people to confirm to run and there is a small group supplement if there are less than 6 people in the group. The supplement is payable locally and costs €100 per person.

TRANSFERS are not included for the Poqueira, Horse About and Sulayr short breaks but can be arranged. Shared transfers at a set time from Malaga are €55 per person each way payable locally. Private transfers can also be arranged from Granada (c. €105 per vehicle each way) or Malaga (c. €165 per vehicle each way).
Shared transfers at a set time from Malaga are included on the Alpujarra short break.
Transfers are included from Malaga. The collection time at Malaga is scheduled for 17:00 so you should book a flight with an arrival time before 16:00 to allow for luggage collection.
Your return flight should depart from Malaga after 12:00.
Private transfers at other times from Malaga and Granada airports are also possible, please call or email for details.
If you are on an evening flight home, there is now a left luggage facility at Malaga airport and train station. You can ask to be dropped off at the train station and spend the afternoon exploring Malaga. The easiest way to get into town is by taxi and there is a rank outside the station. The old town of Malaga is home to a stunning cathedral and the Picasso museum as well as an old citadel, boutique shops and cafes.
If you prefer to drive it's a two hour journey from Malaga or one and a half hours from Granada.
Transfers are not included in the price.
There is a shared transfer that departs from Malaga Airport at 17:00 so you should book a flight with an arrival time before 16:00 to allow for luggage collection. Your return flight should depart from Malaga after midday. This costs €55 each way.

Set in Andalucia. Ride through the highest mountain range in Spain.
Due to the altitude the sun is very strong and it is essential to use sun protection all year. In the evening the temperature drops and even during the summer months a light jumper or jacket is required. In March, April, May and October you should bring warm clothing and waterproofs.
The weather in Spring and Autumn in the mountains can be changeable and it is best to be prepared for all conditions.
I just loved the whole set up and ethos of the way Dallas and her team run their stables. Beautifully schooled and mannered horses who all looked fit and well.
