Ride Report

View Ride

I visited Monte Velho, based an hour and a half south of Lisbon, in April 2018. This Lusitano stud and dressage centre offers a mixture of semi-private lessons and trail rides around the estate on high quality Lusitanos. From Grand Prix school masters to more challenging steeds they have a horse for everyone. Understandably, lessons are in high demand.

The trail rides here offer the opportunity to explore stunning Monte Velho estate and time to process what you have learnt in your lessons. The trail rides are an hour and a half long and at a mixed pace including steady canters.

Guests are looked after as well off horse as they are on. There are two beautiful standard rooms and seven incredible premium room and you would not be disappointed to stay in either. Designed by the owner, an architect, the bedrooms at Monte Velho are on par with a 5* hotel. If luxury is what you are looking for, you will definitely find it here.

Monte Velho estate is located in a lovely rural part of the Alentejo region of Portugal. In the area, there’s plenty to explore if you wanted to venture away from the equestrian centre including Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage site which is a short drive away. If you do want to explore the area further between your lessons you may like to hire a car as Monte Velho is in a rural location and public transport is limited.

Monte Velho is a luxurious escape into dressage paradise. Whether you wish to explore further afield or immerse yourself in all things dressage, Monte Velho is a dressage diva’s dream.
