The Riding
The Accommodation
Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?
Accommodation is at times basic but perfectly comfortable. This was expected from the trip briefing so not a surprise and we had no issues and were very happy. The camp nights were very comfortable and we were very well looked after by the whole team.
The food is a major highlight of this trip. Unbelievable quality and really made every day different and exciting. It's really fresh, with lots of delicious salads so we didn't feel too heavy riding after lunch (despite eating a lot!)
Before Your Holiday
Did you have all of the information you needed to:
How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?
Everything was fantastic and very thorough.
The only recommendation is that the standard of waterproofs needed is higher than we anticipated for Macedonian mountain weather!
We were expecting summer rain showers like we would get in England (fairly light, don't last that long), but instead we experienced powerful lightning and thunderstorms with hail on two days that lasted multiple hours with very heavy rain. It was all part of the adventure, but if we'd known that was not unusual for the mountains we'd have packed more substantial waterproof clothing.
EG the guides had waterproof coats for riding that came down over their legs, waterproof trousers and boot covers. My short waterproof shell jacket and trousers didn't quite cope and so my layers underneath got pretty wet as well!
I would recommend making it more clear in the packing guidance that the weather can be quite extreme and to pack accordingly!
How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?
booking and payment were very smooth. No improvements needed!
Do you have any other feedback for us?
This was really quite an extraordinary trip. It went way beyond just a riding holiday, and I'm not sure I'll find something as special for a long time!
The passion and expertise of the guides, the food and wine, the generous hospitality and above all the wonderful horses made this a really magical adventure that I'll never forget.
I would love to go again and/or book onto their wine tour as it was really incredibly special.
Alice (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Unforgettable and way above expectations! | The riding was very varied, each day was different. Most of the time is spent walking, but the horses are so forward going this is not tedious. The scenery is so breathtaking that there is plenty to look at, and there are some technical areas where the sure-footedness of the horses is really tested. The first couple of days were a bit more steady, but this gave us time to get used to the horses and their way of going. There were loads of opportunities for a good canter or gallop, and the horses were fantastic and really obedient.
The riding is not for the faint hearted, and it is fast over varied terrain. You need to be comfortable and competent to get the most out of it!
