Miyak Tribe Trail - North Macedonia

Miyak Tribe Trail

5 star rating   5 July 2026

Justine who has been on 6 In The Saddle rides. Believe the hype - this is a fabulous trail! | The riding is well paced. Much of the 200km is at walk due to the terrain, but the landscapes change every day and it is never dull. The canters build up over the first three days from in line, to side by side and then 'rock'n'roll'... it is a lot of fun to let the horses really go where the ground allows. The horses are a mix and I was matched well with Jafar, who was steady in walk (we were happy at the back) but had some moves on the plains! The saddles are comfortable and despite the long hours riding I did not have any stiffness - maybe as so much is at walk and the varied terrain meaning you are shifting position so much. It is a truly stunning landscape - breath-taking on some days.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The food is incredible, I remain in awe of Alex the chef and the support team (Gorge and team) who managed to create the most delicious lunches on the hoof (as it were). It really is something special.

The accommodation is simple but perfectly fine on all nights. A bit of room faff each night (who sleeps where and with whom) that perhaps could have been sorted in advance of our arrival after a long day.

Camping is comfortable and again, the food really good.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

Pre-reads and kit list was helpful. The weather is varied and I would strongly recommend proper rain gear - my waterproof trousers and gortex shell were not enough for the rain when it came. I think this could be emphasised more - there was a pretty grim morning when we were all very wet and cold (despite layers etc - it is the rain gear that is key).

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

Nothing to add

Do you have any other feedback for us?

The briefing on the first night is too long and detailed before we have even met the horses or got a sense of the terrain. It could be shortened by half and then picked up on the first day in chunks.

But you can't fault Vasco's passion about the horses, the mountains and the history and culture - it added another dimension to the trip.
