The Accommodation
Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?
Accomodation- varied level of comfort but all fine. Some very charming places.
Food:
Breakfast varied a lot from almost nothing some places (= some sweet cake-like stuff + coffee) to a more varied breakfast other places (a couple of places possibility to get eggs, 2 places as far as I remember cheese and ham).
Lunch: Nice food (salad + cheese , ham ++). However, not acceptable to only serve wine for lunch. I asked for juice several times and got it twice.
[In The Saddle note - fresh water is always available at lunch time, but it isn't easy for fresh juices to be obtained in the small towns they pass through].
Dinner: Very nice, normally 4 courses and unlimited wine. However difficult to get smaller portions so a lot of food waste.
Before Your Holiday
Did you have all of the information you needed to:
How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?
All fine. Just one small issue - in the info sent the you showed a picture of a grounded plug/outlet. Most places we stayed did not have this.
[Olwen from In The Saddle - the ride operator tells us that the plug situation in Sicily is a bit tricky because different accommodations can have different kinds of plugs. We are now illustrating the most commonly seen plug].
How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?
All fine
Helle who has been on 6 In The Saddle rides. Great ride in beatuful Sicily | The reason I put only 'agree' on the second question was because one of the riders had challenges doing canter/gallop and this created some situations . One example- on the beach the last day he -and others if they wanted- should have been given the option to stop and get off the horse(s) before the canter/gallop. As it was, some of us in the back tried to stop because he had trouble while the front riders went on for a bit before they stopped.
As a whole , the ride was varied from snow in the mountains to beautiful spring flowers in the lowland. Because of all the rain the ground - and some river crossings were sometimes a challenge and sometimes we had to find an alternative route. The guides/owners were very good.
The days were quite long (starting 08:30-09:00 and finishing between 18 and 19 ) so riders should be aware of this before booking this trail.
