Carpathia Forests and Bears

4 star rating   10 May 2025

Jen who has been on 9 In The Saddle rides. Fun riding in the Romanian countryside | Fun riding on lovely horses. They were very forward going so the riding was more on the lively side than the relaxing side. I had a strong horse for one of the rides, very sweet and friendly horse but I struggled to hold her during canter! The horses are all very well loved and cared for exceptionally well. Good mix of riding, on forest tracks and in the meadows. The Carpathians are big though, so on a centre based ride there isnt so much variety. I will try the trail ride next! There are some quite long stretches walking with the horses, which wasnt so fun on the slippery muddy bits.

Home-cooked, simple food, very tasty and good variety for vegetarians. There was plenty too which is always a bonus! Good choices for making picnic lunches. Delicous homemade jams and chutneys!

Do you have any other feedback for us?

The cultural excursions were really good, I particularly enjoyed the virgin forest walk (challenging) and the bear hide. The nature guides who took us out were great, I enjoyed learning about the conservation projects in the carpathians too.

Buying black english tea is very difficult in Romania, if you like lots of tea, bring your own tea-bags! Plenty of coffee available though!
