Equus Silvania - Romania

Deborah who has been on 9 In The Saddle rides. Super holiday, riding, conservation, culture and cuisine. | I rode the same horse (Rubin - great horse) all week, but others did change their mount. The riding did largely meet expectations. In walk we could ride side by side but trot & canter in line. We had a couple of extended faster canters both in forest and on open hillside. The mountain scenery we rode to be able to see really was spectacular.
The horses clearly enjoyed their jobs.
It was great to untack horses at lunch time to allow them to roll and graze.

Whilst I was prepared to dismount to lead my horse where needed, these walks were on pretty uneven ground and in one case about 25 minutes duration so it’s not just a short walk.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

Accommodation recently refurbished and is very smart. The only minor downside was the communal area had tables & chairs in the bar area less lounge like so less relaxing after a ride. That said we were kept busy so little time just to chill.

The food in the evening was excellent, breakfast same each day but very acceptable local and fresh. Packed lunch made from same items available at breakfast.

The lunch at restaurant in Viscri was wonderful.

There is NO plain black tea ( like Breakfast Tea) only Earl grey. This is because it is not available so guests should take with them if this is what they drink.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

The guided hike into the virgin forest was steep up and down. Anyone who does not walk up hills regularly will find this a challenge - Achievable but a challenge. It was taken slowly so all guests ok but it’s not a pretty walk in the woods!

Do you have any other feedback for us?

It is a great holiday with good riding combined with a peek at local natural social and historical culture. The bear hide was a highlight. The local culture day to Viscri and Sighisoara was excellent with a super guide.
I loved it.
