Ant's Lodges - South Africa

Ant's Nest

5 star rating   22 July 2024

Evangeline who has been on 2 In The Saddle rides. Beautiful lodge, fabulous riding and friendly staff | Riding is fun, varied and whatever you want it to be. All the guides are passionate, friendly and keen to share their knowledge, and there is the perfect mix of game viewing and fast canters.

The horses at Ant’s Nest are well-schooled, responsive and a joy to ride. The staff are excellent at finding the right horse for you, from steady ponies to speedy thoroughbreds, and horse welfare is second to none.

Once I found a horse (Zanzi) which was perfect for me, the staff allocated him to me where possible or gave me similar rides when he needed a rest.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

We stayed in the Rondavel, which was delightful. The interior was charming and there was everything you could need - including a free minibar! The champagne for my mum’s birthday was a special touch.

The food was excellent and they catered very well for our specific requirements. Every meal was very tasty and the menu was varied but always high quality.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

At Ant’s Best you choose which activities you take part in e.g. riding, game drives or cycling, but the morning and afternoon rides are specific times.

Before coming we had the impression we could choose when we rode, and this is not really the case. However, we loved the structure of Ant’s and the communal aspect this facilitated!
[Becky from In The Saddle replies: Thank you so much, this is really useful feedback. The itinerary is very flexible and you can choose the two activities you'd like to do each day but they are at set times determined by the lodge.]

The fact Acacia was such a fun, safe and responsive ride at just four years old is a real testament to the skill of the stable staff at Ant’s!
