Moolmanshoek - South Africa

Moolmanshoek

Jo who has been on 3 In The Saddle rides. Best holiday so far | This was my first centre based holiday and I did wonder if if would be as exciting as a trail holiday. How wrong was I! Every day was different as we explored different areas inside and outside of the reserve. Some of the riding was challenging and technical which made things more interesting. As well as time for some long lovely canters. You need to trust these horses 100% (especially when your fear of heights is tested!). Their ability to ride in this terrain is amazing. Big shout out to my boy Rino. He was calm and relaxed (the older man of the group). Happy to go at the back but a little pocket rocket when at the front.

The horses are well cared for and have the most amazing temperaments. Lovely to see that there is a place for all horses. From foals, pregnant mares, youngsters living on the mountains, stallions, those in work, to those that have retired and living the most wonderful life. It is such an interesting place. You could never get bored.

Lindy was an exceptional ride leader - as were all the guides and back up guides. During our rides she shared her knowledge of the animals, plants etc. It was great to learn more about the area.

[Abbie from ITS replies: Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We are so happy that you enjoyed Moolmanshoek].

The room was lovely and comfortable with a lovely view over the lake and the fields of horses. A welcome place to relax between riding. As it was winter it was cold in the mornings and at night but this is fully catered for. Beds have electric blankets, thick soft throws and my room had an open fire. During dinner staff would light the fire and turn on the blankets ready for my return. Such a treat!

You will never go hungry on this trip. The food (and chef) was amazing. It was all local, tasty and served beautifully. Their fruit bread is to die for!! It was also nice to be joined by staff members for our evening meal. And you eat in the most beautiful surroundings.

The serving staff also need a big shout out for all their work. Nothing was too much trouble and they always served us with a smile on their face.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

No improvements are required.

But just to note. On this trip the airport transfer cost is paid to Moolmanshoek at the end of the stay and not directly to the driver. We tipped the driver when we were dropped off at the airport.

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

No improvements are required.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

I can't praise this holiday enough. From the moment we were picked up to being dropped off it was exceptional. Lindy and team really have made this a must go to destination.

But it was also the other little touches. The WhatsApp group that was created by the team on our arrival at the hotel to introduce themselves and the driver. The video created by Lindy of our ride shared with us at the end of the day. The shop selling local produce and gifts. Sundowners on the terrace of the big house (and allowed a snoop around!). The turned down bed with a chocolate or nougat.

The passion the family and staff have for the reserve and their horses is clear to see. A perfect example of conservation and tourism working hand in hand. Plus it was great to see the opportunities they are giving to the local people. It looks like they really look after all of their staff members.

All the staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. I really felt looked after and didn't actually want to leave. So one day I will go back. I just have a few other places in South Africa to visit first!
