Highland Trails - Iceland

Kjölur - South to North

5 star rating   3 July 2024

Elsebeth who has been on 2 In The Saddle rides. All the horses were really lovely and well handled. They were different, and some of them suited me better than others, but it was exciting and educational for me to try 10 different ones. The tack was tip-top in order. The terrain was challenging and the pace quite fast, and I would point out that you really need to be fit and be an experienced rider with good balance. It was a fantastic experience and very intense, so I almost felt like I had been away for a whole month. The nature is also quite special and really exciting.
[Becky from In The Saddle replies: Thank you very much for your feedback and it's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your holiday to Iceland. This itinerary is certainly one of the more challenging highland rides.]

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The accommodation along the way was somewhat different from place to place, but everything worked fine. Even if you are a lot of people with not so many toilets and showers, you make it work. We knew that it is not a trip with overnight stays in 5* hotels, and you are prepared for less comfort

I think it will come as a surprise to many that the terrain is so challenging. But it also helps to make riding exciting.
