Highland Trails - Iceland

Winter Riding and Northern Lights

5 star rating   18 October 2024

Emma who has been on 5 In The Saddle rides. Iceland winter riding and northern lights | It surpassed expectations.. I was expecting to feel rather “under horsed” as I am tall and used to 16.2 rides. They are diddy, but absolutely don’t ride as little as they look. They are willing but mannerly, unbelievably sure footed and I felt like I was floating in Tolt. Hannes and his family are so welcoming and the food is delicious.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The accommodation is very basic, but if you read the blurb, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. The beds are comfy and the cabins are warm. The bathrooms are a bit icky if you don’t like sharing with strangers, but on my trip everyone was considerate.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

I don’t think you can. You made it very clear that you needed layers, warmth and water proofing. Perhaps remind people to pack a swimming costume.. I did but mostly because we did our own thing before we came back.
If anything, I didn’t need as many spare clothes as the cabins are very warm and there was plenty of space and time to dry coats and over trousers. It’s so bloody cold there was no danger of breaking into a sweat!

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

No

Do you have any other feedback for us?

I love ITS.. I went on a holiday to Northern Ireland that wasn’t with you and it was pretty rubbish. Much cheaper but we felt as if it had been “upsold”.

The main thing for me is that I am alway totally confident that the well-being of the horses is more important than turning a profit.. I was a little disappointed in Uruguay, but I think that was end of season issues and I did alert ITS at the time.
