Wolves and Wild Horses - Portugal

Wolves and Wild Horses

5 star rating   9 July 2022

Wendy who has been on 7 In The Saddle rides. Portugal-Wolves and wild horses | The pace of the ride is leisurely as it is in the mountains which gives you time to take in the beautiful and varied surroundings. We were able to canter two times each day with the canters being long ,fast and fabulous!
The horses are all schooled by Pedro and are ridden with a loose rein and a light squeeze ,no kicking needed ( or allowed ). The horses are very sensitive to the human on board but if you are confident with them they are confident with you and are a joy to ride !
We saw lots of groups of the wild garrano horses on our rides out .

All the guests stay in a dedicated farmhouse . I had a lovely room with a balcony and modern shower room . There was always hot water on tap.
Breakfasts are simple ,prepare yourself with cheese ,bread ,jams ,yogurt and fruit . There is tea and a nespresso coffee machine available in the kitchen for use at all times .
Our guide ,Mariana ,prepared and cooked fabulous home cooked lunches for the lunch stops.
All the evening meals are home cooked by Anabella and we had a delicious range of Portuguese meals through the week

Do you have any other feedback for us?

on our half days riding ,Pedro took us for a walk in the mountains and up to the castle perched at the top of a long climb up . We also attended 2 yoga sessions held by Arabella in the garden .
There is a leisurely start to the day ,pick up was 10/10:30am .
At the stables you are met by a wonderful group of 9 dogs and a horse who wanders freely around and behaves like a dog! You will find him coming up to you for a stroke and fuss!
if you love animals ,you will love this place
