Haciendas of the Andes - Ecuador

Incredible holiday, underrated destination! | Sally and her team take wonderful care of the horses, being mindful of their fitness and adjusting horses based on the rider’s preference. You can really tell how much Sally loves her horses, and the bond she has with each one. I was well-matched with both horses, and the one I rode most, Eric, is my favorite horse I’ve ridden on any riding holiday.

The actual riding itself, in terms of pace and terrain, was phenomenal. This was among the most beautiful countryside I’ve ridden in with spectacular views. Riding in front of a volcano with wild horses was an experience I’ll never forget. I didn’t know what to expect, but in every way-Ecuador blew my expectations.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

I truly believe there’s nowhere in the world where you can have such incredible views and riding along with such an excellent standard of hotels and food. We stayed in a different hacienda every night, and each one was unique but incredibly comfortable and luxurious. Due to the time of year, it was cold at night but the staff ensured we had a fire, hot water bottles, and hot water for showers, which was much appreciated.

I am celiac and had no problems. The staff at each hacienda and Sally and her team ensured that there were sufficient gluten free options, and the quality was excellent.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

None. When there was a change in pickup location, both In the Saddle and Sally contacted me to ensure I knew. I also really appreciated Abbie’s call wishing me a wonderful holiday! It’s a little touch that I appreciate.

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

This is not a critique in any way, but I am based in the US and payment is done via wire transfer. Due to limited hours of availability for international wire transfer, I had to step out of work to make the payments. It would be nice for an alternative way of payment. Past holidays (pre-COVID) was easier. It’s not an issue at all, and I understand I’m a US-based customer so things may not be as easy, but it would be nice for some other payment method.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

I didn’t know what to expect with Ecuador or this holiday. I had never been to South America before, and chose this because the ride and country looked interesting and length/dates/price were right. But I didn’t go into it with any expectations or high hopes. In every sense, this trip completely exceeded all expectations and is one of, if not my, favorite riding holiday I’ve done. From the country to the riding, to the accommodations and food, to Sally, her team, and the horses, this was absolutely incredible. It’s also unusual that the owner is your guide, and spends so much time with the guests, but that added to the experience and made it all the more special. Sally takes time with each guest to get to know them and ensure they’re having a good time, all while guiding the trip and running her business, and I don’t know how she does it! She’s a force of nature in the best way, and you truly felt cared for and taken care of by her.
