The Accommodation
Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?
The food at Los Alamos was plentiful, healthy, freshly prepared and tasty. The accommodation was very comfortable, could do with a little more storage for our clothes, and a warning to bring ear plugs for a good night's sleep, it's noisy at night with dogs, chickens, donkeys and owls all competing with each other to see who is loudest, all night long! We had lunch out at local hostelries at the end of the ride, and the food was always freshly prepared and delicious. Remember to save a piece of bread for your horse after lunch as they expect a little treat!

You only ride in total for around 3-4 hours in the morning, and my husband and I felt we had the energy for an afternoon ride too, and you don't ride at all on Thursday, so its a little less riding than we are used to on an 'In the Saddle' holiday. Each afternoon is therefore spent at the accommodation, either by the pool, or you could go for a short walk locally. One afternoon we asked to be dropped off in nearby Jever de la Frontera, which is one of Spain's most beautiful historic white hill top towns, for a bit of retail therapy and a rose (or two) at a roof top bar with views to die for, and we got a taxi back. We thoroughly recommend you visit, it's so so pretty. We went back one evening to watch the sun go down over the hills, and to the 'night of the candles' which occurs once a year in the town and thousands of locals flock to the town for the occasion. It was spectacular and very romantic. In summary, apart from riding, there are things to see and do, but you need to ask, and they will oblige, no trouble at all.
Ann who has been on 5 In The Saddle rides. exhilarating horse riding under the Spanish sun | The horses are very fit, well behaved and well trained, very responsive to your aids, can stop from a gallop on a sixpence, and light to the hand, none of my muscles ached after riding which was delightful, although if you do have any aches and pains they can organise a massage!. I rode the same horse all week except for the last day, and they were very well matched to my ability. We enjoyed two beach rides on our trip, at the same beach, and despite the beach being very popular with locals for exercising or dog walking, we still managed to get our canters and gallops in. Our guide Jose is quite rightly very safety conscious, and is careful not to put any rider or walker at risk.
