Nile Explorer - Uganda

Nile Explorer

5 star rating   6 October 2019

Claudia who has been on 10 In The Saddle rides. Fabulous riding, very nice local staff and charming Ugandan people - with a live changing Gorilla meeting! | Great riding - through plantations and small villages! The horses are very well trained for the safaris. They are fit, motivated and with an excellent behaving, even when they are still young.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The lodges are all very nice, except the Rain Forest Lodge. This Lodge is old and missing basic maintenance. The top location is of course, the Wild Waters Lodge - in the middle of the Nile - an unforgettable location.

For the Gorilla Tracking, the Haven Lodge in Buhoma is on a beautiful spot, in the middle of the mountain forest, where the gorillas live. Unfortunately, they are often missing electricity (with a lot of negative side effects) and the food offer at the Rain Forest Lodge, while very good every where else, did not meet my expectations.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

If flight changes occur during the stay, then the information should be properly given to all involved persons: To us, guests (this did happen, but without new departure time) and the lodge staff AND the driver (there were different informations available, that confused us all). [In The Saddle - we am sorry about this. The flight times back to Entebbe are confirmed the day before and the hotel know to double-check this with the airline so we are very sorry you got confusing messages.]

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

Payment handling was fine. To reach a guaranted status in the booking process, it took too much time. [In The Saddle - in your case it took a long time to get confirmation of the gorilla permit; we are sorry about this delay.]

Do you have any other feedback for us?

TJ and Nathalie do just a brilliant job, also in supporting local people. Their ideal and constant work of conviction and help to improve slightly daily conditions in Uganda is just admirable! We could, i.e., visit and meet the director and the pupils of a primary local school, supported by them. But they are involved in far more projects. They dedicate also a lot of time to develop their staff members to become good horsemen and ambassadors for hosting horseback riders, but also to learn a lot for a successful and sustainable live.
