Wolves and Wild Horses

5 star rating   9 June 2019

Bethany D (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Hideaway horseback heaven | The horses were all incredibly sure-footed, forward, responsive and kind. Whilst initially riding an impressive Lusitano Stallion, I had the opportunity to ride a Garrano mare on day 2 and it was love at first ride. She was bitless but I felt totally safe, most sensitive horse I have ever sat on. Our week was affected by rain so opportunities for fast riding were slightly less than usual and the itinerary did have to change, but still overall a fantastic week of riding in a stunning landscape.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The house is very comfortable and beautifully presented. I loved Anabela’s artwork. Pedro and Anabela are great hosts and all the food was fresh and delicious. Dinner is served quite late (9pm) and it did take me a couple of days to adjust to this. Pedro and Anabela are visionaries with big plans, so there are works going on in the buildings around the house, which in no way affected our stay but certainly makes me want to come back and see the finished product.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

Little book was great although some info not quite up to date. Eg there are hair dryers available at the house and Pedro can provide saddle bags for water bottles.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

Ecotura House and the Peneda-Gerês National Park is a hidden treasure and is a great place to get away from it all and relax and recharge. Pedro and Anabela are kind and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and they go the extra mile for their guests. The landscape is beautiful and a great variety of riding terrain. I was surprised by how wet and cool it was for June (apparently this was unusual). Bring good waterproofs! And the non riding activities (. eg castle/town visits) gave a really good flavour of the region.
