The Riding
The Accommodation
Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?
This is a no frills experience, your bed except for the first and last night is a campbed and swag under the stars - and what stars! There are chemical toilets at night and bucket showers - otherwise it is behind a bush! Food is fantastic meals cooked over the fire and not forgetting the well stocked bar! The backup team work very hard to make this an experience for everyone to remember.
Before Your Holiday
Did you have all of the information you needed to:
How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?
I think the itinerary is not the one that they follow for this ride anymore there have been a few changes made so it may be worth getting it updated?
(ITS NOTE: Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed Namibia so much. We have updated the itinerary to reflect that the visit to Twyfelfontein is now on day 2 instead of day 3.)
Claudia who has been on 4 In The Saddle rides. Namibia - Damara Ride | This is an adventure to remember. What an amazing country Namibia is!
Extremely fit, well looked after horses riding across an ever changing landscape from dry river beds through magnificent canyons, across what seems like the surface of the moon, through tall reed beds and ending up on the wild but beautiful skeleton coast. This is a fast ride with lots and lots of canters and gallops in open order with loose horses accompanying you, so yes you need to be riding fit and experienced - you are expected to look after your horse and absolutely must be able to ride with a light seat and hand especially in the faster paces - this is not a novice ride!
You must be honest about the type of horse you want to ride and your own riding capabilities and you will be matched with a hardy and equally adventurous companion for the duration of the trip. Mostly you stick with one horse so you know each other well by the end of the ride which only adds to the experience.
Tack is trail saddles with simple bridles and halters/lead ropes, you are expected to groom and tack up your horse - under the watchful eyes of Andrew and Telane!
Andrew is a fantastic guide, experienced, calm with a dry humour and excellent horsemanship - you will have no problem putting your fatih in him or the wonderful back up team so do them a favour by listening and obeying their instructions, mucking in and bring your sense of humour and adventure - as with any of these types of rides the more you are willing to put in the more you will get out and you will hopefully meet a great group of like minded individuals who you will see in the saddle again - we certainly did!
