Sierra Nevada - Spain

Alpujarra Ride

5 star rating   18 May 2019

A lot of the terrain is steep and uneven, so a lot of the riding was at walking pace. This was fine as it allowed time to appreciate the breathtaking surroundings, talk and take photos. Most days also had sections where we could trot and canter. The horses we were given were all generally well behaved and incredibly sure footed. It was amazing to work with horses that were confident on steep and rocky paths.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The food was delicious and plentiful. I'm a vegetarian, and the host, Dallas, made sure I had good choices both in the lunchtime picnics and on the restaurant meals in the evening. Everyone in the group enjoyed the food. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and was sufficient for a night's rest.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

This was my first riding holiday and it was a fantastic experience. Dallas has been running riding holidays in the Sierra Nevada mountains for over 30 years and so there is not much she doesn't know about them. She is a fantastic host and works hard to make sure everyone is happy. She has a large number of horses to choose from and they all look well. The horses that she chose for our group all seemed well matched to the riders. The mountains are fascinating for their wildlife, wild flowers, history, culture, food, farming, geology, and weather (which was virtually all sunshine during the day with the addition of unusual clouds in the evening). Horses are very much part of the Spanish culture so you are made to feel welcome everywhere. Everything was well organised and closely matched the description given by In The Saddle. I cannot recommend this holiday enough.
