Gobi Steppe Ride - Mongolia

Gobi Steppe Ride

5 star rating   17 June 2019

Christina who has been on 2 In The Saddle rides. Fast and funny. | Unfortunately we had to stick to the „roads“ for canters, as the ground was covered in holes from the millions of mice. But that was handled really well by Bayaraa, our horse guide.
As it was only Nicole and me as guests and our translator-guide was a former jockey, we could actually go the speed we liked 🙂 And the horses have extraordinary stamina and will to go.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

Our cook did an excellent job! She really did what she could with the sometimes rather scarce supplies given to her by the company (no major deal. Just some things were gone before the end of the trip).
Accommodation would have been rated excellent, but the stretchers were not the most comfortable.
Also please review you packlist: there are definitely no towels provided and no pillows (We both had towels and pillows with us, but I think you need to cross out, that towels are provided and you can make it clearer that there is no pillow). [ITS comment: thank you for higlighting this, we will update the bring list.]

Before Your Holiday

Did you have all of the information you needed to:

Plan and prepare for your holiday?

Feel comfortable about your transfers and what to expect?

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

It will be enough to provide information via eMail. I really do not want another case with printed out information/brochure.
For content see comment on pillow/towel.
It would have been nice to know beforehand, that it was only Nicole and myself on the trip

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

All good!

Do you have any other feedback for us?

I really loved our translator guide and the whole crew.
I think I never laughed and sang so much during a holiday.

However, please review the times during which you promote this particular ride. It was really very dry, hardly any feed for the horses. And this is at least the second year in a row, if I got the local right. I think that it will work better in the rainier seasons. We only moved camp twice (3 different mobile camp grounds and the last one around the corner from Arburd Sands) in order to stay near „pasture“. That made the last days a bit boring with regard to landscape. Still the riding and the whole experience was really enjoyable. And of course it is also definitely more comfortable not to move every day 🙂 [ITScomment: We are sorry that the itinerary had to be changed so that the horses could remain in areas with good grazing. Much of the moisture comes from snow melt and summer rains. Our rides have run from mid June through to mid September for many years; they are planned many months in advance before we know what the moisture levels have been over the winter months.]

I would absolutely recommend a holiday in Mongolia, however this particular one at a different time of the year.
