Cape Winelands Riding

Linda P who has been on 18 In The Saddle rides. South Africa - Cape Winelands Riding | Nice horses, clearly well loved and cared for. We had Texas, Tallahassee and Chenook - all great. Riding is mostly through vineyards, fields and fruit orchards, perfect tracks for cantering. Nice comfortable trail saddles. Only down side was the walk by the side of a busy road for a few hundred yards. The road needs to be crossed to get to the vineyards, crossing is not a problem but it would be good if you could come out on one side and cross immediately without having to walk beside it. Our guide, Ellen was knowledgeable and good company - also knows her wines!

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

We stayed at the stables. It was lovely being near the horses. Room was basic but comfortable - good shower. Would have been nice to have more outside seating to relax after riding. Selection of food provided for breakfast was adequate. Brai cooked at the farm was great and most of the food we had at restaurants and at the wine estates was very good.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

Riding and wine tasting - good horses, good wine, good food. Great few days. We had a four night stay (in December) before travelling to the Okavango Delta to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. The area is beautiful and horseback riding is a great way to see it. Louis is a welcoming host and clearly has a great love for his horses. Ellen was a great guide. The combination of horse riding, wine tasting and good food is perfect! We liked the way that the fairies came and tacked up our horses for us after the wine tasting and lunch. Wished we had stayed another couple of days to look around the Cape Town area.
