Desert Cavalcade

5 star rating   24 February 2019

A good variety of paces across very different terrains. The day of the fast gallop was very windy, so it literally took my breath away!

The food in the hotel was good, but the food out on the trail (lunch and campsites) was excellent and very fresh, and abundant!

This is the third trail ride I have been on in southern Morocco, with the same guide - Abdel. He and his colleagues leave no stone unturned to make it a memorable holiday. Help was at hand at all times when needed, and they certainly have a brilliant sense of humour. The stallions were sure-footed and sometimes an unexpectedly lively ride occurred, but all the riders were well able to cope and enjoyed the challenge. The horses were well looked after and their needs always came first when we stopped for lunch or to set up camp.
The Desert Calvacade ride, I found, was the most interesting of the three because of the different landscapes and terrains, (mountain pass, sand dunes, stoney flat desert, rocky gorges) and we rode through a number of villages in the palm groves of the Draa Valley. These were irrigated for crops and the palms, making the area very green with grass and wildflowers. It was February, but the weather was quite warm during the day if a bit chilly at night.
