Ranch Stay

5 star rating   17 August 2019

Justine who has been on 4 In The Saddle rides. Horses were responsive and well-matched to the riders (of differing ability). What was really great was the relaxed nature of the rides: the horses are so well trained that you can have people off doing a fast canter and the other horses will not race or follow. This allowed the same ride to be enjoyed by different confidence levels (though we could all ride) - so the family aged 10-50 all rode together every day. There was no walking along in a line (unless track demanded it) and indeed diversions were encouraged (logs; ditches; woods....;-)). There was a variety of terrain and activities including day rides; longer hacks; barrel racing and cattle herding. As an experienced rider I loved the opportunity to learn about the natural horsemanship and liberty work and also the very different Western style. I kept the same horse all week (other swapped if needed / they wanted) and we were encouraged to look after them as well which was all part of it. Horses were super fit and well looked after.
[Becky from In The Saddle replied: I'm so pleased to hear how much you all enjoyed the riding. Natural Horsemanship is a big part of ranch life.]

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The food and accommodation is as stated on the tin. The rooms are about 20 years old - rustic but clean; well maintained and comfortable. Very unpretentious. Food is exactly what is needed before / after a day in the saddle. Home cooked and tasty: tortillas; lasagne; steaks; chicken etc and there is plenty of beer/ wine/ soda etc for those that want it. You all eat together with other guests; family and staff and it is very free form seating.

There is also a hot tub and laundry room guests can use, which was helpful.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

All good. Some debate on tipping but you were responsive!
[Becky from In The Saddle replied: We always try to pass on the recommended tips set by the ranch but completely understand that for family groups this can get expensive. We believe tipping should always be voluntary and based on the experience had.]

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

Nothing springs to mind

Do you have any other feedback for us?

We really liked it and if anything preferred to Horizon - which was also great! But both these holidays would suit similar families and had a similar ‘home’ feel. Girls very much want to go back for 10 days next year....
