Macatoo - Botswana

Riding Safari

5 star rating   29 June 2019

Mod, as stable manager, was brilliant at his job.
The horses are in very good condition, extremely fit and their welfare is paramount.
Over the period of a week I rode 4 horses and felt they were all ideal mounts. 3-4 different horses over a week is typical due to horses resting requirements.
If any member was struggling with their horse a suitable replacement was found immediately.
It is vital not to overstate your riding ability.

I have looked at this holiday longingly for 20 years. My 50th birthday provided the perfect opportunity to make it happen and stop putting it of ‘until’.

With such high expectations, the bar was set high but macatoo by far exceeded our hopes of adventure on the most thrilling scale.

We were aware that the floods had not arrived at Macatoo this year, a rare occurrence but this meant game was concentrated at the water holes and the gallops were long and epic!

So many small touches make this holiday incredible and truly special. I almost don’t want to name them so they remain a surprise.

The proximity to so many beautiful creatures made your hair stand on end. Galloping with zebra, within yards of giraffe elephants, buffalo, lions, a leopard, monkeys, hyena, eagle owls, wild dogs to name a few .. on more than one occasion an elephant wandered to the edge of the camp yards from the horses being washed down.

All of the staff were fantastic people, with a great sense of humour. Our guide Bongwe was the best company, so knowledgable and patient and MD our back up guide was great too.
Kate and Steph did a superb job.

The camp had some fun characters coming and going and we were so lucky with our group, we got on famously and laughed so much, 3 different nationalities, bonded forever by our experience. The Australian ladies were pure inspiration to me. Go with an attitude of openness and leave any ego behind and your experience of others will be enhanced no end.

No mobile signal or WiFi, hair brushes, make up.... bliss and highly recommended.

I can’t adequately put into words what this adventure meant to us. New blood in the veins, inspired, awestruck… new ways of thinking I could go on…

There wasn’t a dry eye in our group when we left camp.

Busy working so we can return as soon as possible.
