V&K who has been on 6 In The Saddle rides. Borana Lodge and Mara Expedition Camp | At Borana there was plenty of opportunity to try different horses and, whilst they 'played safe' initially, when we asked for more active, forward going horses, they were happy to oblige without going to the opposite extreme. By the second half of the week we had just the type of horses we enjoyed riding. Having said that. all the horses were lovely and even the slightly slower ones were still enjoyable to ride.

We only rode twice at Mara Expedition camp but they had excellent horses ready for us based on our notes and were very happy to offer a faster, keener horse when one turned out to be too 'steady'.

At both locations we had a personalised experience. there were just the two of us but on every ride there was a minimum of two guides and generally the owners of the stables rode with us. Our expectations (and hopes) were completely met.

The 'room' at Borana was in fact a two bedroom cottage away from the main lodge, and was absolutely superb (especially the outdoor terraces with views over the waterhole and its own plunge pool). We were very lucky as this was an upgrade but all the 'rooms' we saw were fabulous with lots of privacy and lovely views.

Mara Expedition camp was also amazing with good wifi (not that this was a priority for us) plenty of electricity plugs and loads of storage space. The bathrooms were huge and all the linen/towelling was fabulously luxurious.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

As far as we were concerned, you can't. Not only is the information pack full of everything you could possibly need know, the In The Saddle team are only too happy to talk through any queries and sharing their own personal experience. One thing we did note was that the recommendations for tips differed from the guidance offered locally but we compromised somewhere in the middle.

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

There were no issues at all.

Once again we were impressed with the way in which In The Saddle helped us plan our trip and organised it all for us.

There was a blip on arrival when our driver failed to meet us at Nairobi but I was able to contact In The Saddle (by which time it was late on a Saturday evening) and I know they took the matter very seriously and worked behind the scenes to find out what had gone wrong. It was due to a change of hotel ownership and transfer arrangements which had not been communicated to In The Saddle but we were able to get a courtesy bus to the hotel and everything went smoothly thereafter. In The Saddle could not have done more to express how sorry they were about the matter and to offer a gesture of compensation. Things can go wrong from time to time and the proof of a good company is how they deal with it. We have absolutely no complaints and it just served to assure that In The Saddle really cares about its clients.
