Wait A Little - South Africa

Ride and Dine Safari

5 star rating   23 November 2019

Nicola who has been on 7 In The Saddle rides. Wait A Little | The horses were amazing and extremely well cared for.

The pace was a lot slower than advertised in the holiday description….. Although we did eventually get to canter along the tracks there was no fast riding or jumping.

[Olwen from In The Saddle adds - gallops are rare and the only jumping would be should there be a small log in your path. We are sorry if we misled you on this].

Ray is a very different guide to Rusty who no longer works there and so the style and pace of the riding has changed dramatically. This is fine but it may be worth changing the description so people know what to expect. Had we known this in advance then expectations of a very fast ride would not have been so high and the whole problem might not have occurred.

The animal sightings from the horses exceeded all expectations and our guide Ray was amazing- such a knowledgeable young man with a total love of all things in the bush- I learnt a lot and it was really interesting riding with him learning about tracking and all the animals.
In no way am I complaining about Ray as a guide- he is awesome and I’d happily ride with him again any time, But as I said above he is a lot slower than Rusty!)

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

Best not mention the Baboons…. A really upsetting and stressful part of the holiday having been assured that it was impossible for them to get into the tents!!
[Olwen from In The Saddle adds that guests are advised never to keep any food or sweets in their rooms as unfortunately this will encourage baboons to try and break in].

I liked all the accommodations, XiDulu was amazing and Clives Camp also very comfortable though it might be worth mentioning the lack of bathroom/shower privacy in the rooms.

The food was lovely and plentiful and very accommodating to dietary requirements.

Good hearty cooking at Wait a Little
Robin is very passionate about his food and he made our stay at the 2,lodges very pleasurable

Only slight annoyance was lunch at Wait a Little - they really should cover the buffet food to prevent the many many flies landing on the food. [Olwen at In The Saddle replies - we have spoken to Gerti about this. Apparently just before your arrival they had the very very first heavy rains of the season and in the days immediately after that there are flying ants, dung beetles and bugs of all different shapes and sizes. However, the food is normally covered ay lunchtime with fly nets and so we are sorry this didn't happen.]
