SasO (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) As described - not for the nervous rider or those who dont feel confident cantering in open space and uneven ground. | The horses I were allocated were lovely but not that straightforward to ride and combined with not being used to cantering on uneven ground made for some slight scary moments. So whilst I was matched with horses that were correct for my ability as I could control them, it was not easy at times and it would take most of the morning to work out how best to ride the horse. I do have my own horse and am quite careful about riding at speed on uneven hard ground or down hill so perhaps am more of a cautious rider than their normal client who may be more used to going on riding holidays or riding a variety of horses. They do have schoolmaster types but these were allocated to the less experienced, they probably made a slight error in judgement in presuming as I have my own horse I would want a more challenging ride than those who do not have their own horse or ride less frequently.

This meant I had two perfect days of riding after I had got used to my new horses and three days which were more challenging as it took a while for me to get confident and trust the horse and work out how best to ride them.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The bed was a bit hard for my liking but other than that the room was nice.

The food was amazing, some of the best I have eaten. I am a vegetarian and was incredibly impressed with how they accommodated me. Organic wines and home made liquors were also a highlight of this holiday.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

Nothing to improve excellent customer service. Really liked the wallet and booklet provided. Probably worth noting that standard UK seat savers do not fit the endurance saddles so no point bringing them.

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

Again great customer service.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

The only reason I am not recommending this to my friends is that they may find the riding a bit challenging. The guides were quite gung ho and there was lots of fast cantering which was great fun when it was straightforward and more challenging in open spaces on forward going horses and uneven ground but there was little chance to stop and take photos or admire the scenery as we were always on the go. We didn't get a chance to get many photos of us riding the horses or the scenery and I don't think any of us felt comfortable enough with the guides to ask if we could stop and take a photo or ask them to take a photo of us on our horse.

The horse welfare was excellent but I think as it was the end of the season and some of the guides were tired it sometimes felt as if the guests were irritating them or they didn't like us very much especially around meal times. The guides ate with us at meal times and I think they just did not get enough time to themselves to relax so they were tired and fed up with the socialising. I think perhaps if the guides rotated a bit so they did not have to spend the whole day and eat all their meals with customers and they got a few evenings to themselves then they would remain fresher. The guides were excellent with the horses and clearly enjoyed riding but perhaps not so good at dealing with people.

The culture day was amazing as was the bear trip. Romania is a fascinating beautiful country well worth visiting. This holiday was fantastic value for money too.
