Beautiful scenic riding which was top of the list for us. Our guide, Marco, was very good. He was clear with his intentions, his instructions and his explanations. The girls at the stables were friendly and helpful and prepared the horses for us. They looked after Andy well and gave him a suitable horse for his level of ability. On a rainy morning we had a lesson with Marco instead of a trail ride, which was good. I would have liked the opportunity to try some reining movements on an experienced Quarter Horse. [ITS note: it is usually possible to request a technical reining lesson during your stay at Castellare di Tonda, subject to extra cost and availability.]

Room No. 1111 at Fornace. Spacious apartment. We had a very uncomfortable mattress which we should have reported to PJ at Reception who, I'm sure, would have made efforts to improve the situation. There were two large dips in the mattress. We turned the mattress around, which failed to improve comfort levels. Then we turned the mattress over which helped a bit. I recommend that they replace that mattress.

Food quality was generally good. Somewhat limited selection for vegetarians. The desserts were a bit 'plastic', particularly the tiramasu, which was disappointing. The best meal was on the last night (Fri 15 June 2018) when there was an exceptional selection of good quality, fresh, interesting salads and fresh fruit. It was great!

I think it would be good to have telephone contact with the person arranging the holiday, if possible, at least once. Everything is done by email these days, because people are busy at different times of the day, which I understand. Like many people, I am often not available for non-work related phone calls during the day. Nonetheless, it feels impersonal and distant.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

PJ (he has other names) was one of the Reception team at Castellare di Tonda. He was very friendly and helpful. He went out of his way to be helpful but was also relaxed and laid back. Nothing was too much trouble.
