Nile Explorer - Uganda

Nile Explorer

5 star rating   9 September 2018

Mandy who has been on 13 In The Saddle rides. I have always loved Africa, I have no idea why it took me so long to go East! | I have ridden a fair bit around the world and the horses here far exceeded my expectations. They are all so well loved and cared for. Bizarrely my ankles swelled up when I arrived in Uganda, something I have never experienced before on a riding trip- but thankfully Natalie took it all in her stride and successfully matched me up with suitable horses. I loved riding Guinness & Ballentine out on the trails, and the handsome Zeus whilst swimming in the Nile. The horses here are impeccably well mannered & trained, I genuinely think nothing would faze them. I had lots of fun on long canters & gallops through the sugar & tea plantations, but also loved the buzz of our walks through the villages.

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

Lots of varied accommodation, building up to my favourite Wildwaters lodge at the end, almost wish I'd stayed another night here before heading up to Bwindi for the Gorilla tracking.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

As always very thorough & efficient. Been travelling with you since around 2002.

How could we improve the way we handled your booking and payment?

I understand why, but I'm disappointed with your choice not to accept credit cards. I generally decide to go to your far off destinations (often last minute due to work commitments), and this will definitely restrict my choices going forward.

Do you have any other feedback for us?

Undoubtedly it was the opportunity of Gorilla tracking that attracted me to this trip, but I was wrong to underestimate Uganda for the chance to ride amazing horses and get a chance to investigate the local villages & meet the people. Natalie and TJ have something special here, don't be like me and take so long to go East!!

And yes the Gorilla tracking was awesome, if a little surreal. You get so close, and I know you'll not want to put your camera down, but try it and just takes your breath away. Also don't forget to go on the Buhoma village walk whilst in Bwindi, you'll not be disappointed.
