First horse (Dede) was a match so I rode him for the rest of the week. He is a young Lusitano / Arab cross breed, a forward going and fast horse.

A group of 4 cancelled so I had a lovely country house to myself. The house was refurbished by Anabel and Pedro, and they have put in many personal details. My room was very comfortable and I enjoyed the breakfast in the garden in the morning and reading there too in the afternoon during down time.

Anabel went out of her way to offer gluten free yet traditional Portuguese dishes (including homemade gluten free bread and deserts) to accommodate my intolerance. All meals were delicious and accompanied by local Portuguese wine.

This national park is a beautiful, wild and remote area of Portugal. For those who are familiar with the Dartmoor landscape, I found it very similar and I loved it. You can regularly spot wildlife, including herds of wild ponies with stallion and foals, birds of prey, roe deer, goats, etc. Flowers bloom there all year.
Pedro and Anabel are lovely hosts and guides, they are very attentive to your needs and I really enjoyed my time with them. They love nature and animals - so if you are looking for this, you don't need to look any further. The stable are small but filled with happy horses & ponies, dogs and cats. I was looking for a nature retreat to recharge batteries after a busy year at work, and mission accomplished.
