Tuli Trail - Botswana

I think I was expecting it to be more challenging in terms of pace, but the challenges came from an unexpected direction! Close encounters with elephants where we had to be on high alert. Twice on the ride we were instructed to follow the second guide because an elephant was getting rather cross! It was hard to resist cantering away, but we had to walk quietly and carefully away from any possible danger. Scary at the time, but very memorable! Many steep river banks, too, ditch jumping at speed and plenty of logs to jump if desired. Great fun!

Do you have any comments about the accommodation and food?

The accommodation, even when quite basic, was always entirely appropriate to the experience. Showering outside after dark with the moon and stars shining above you, lying in your A frame tent in the morning listening to the roar of lions or the astonishing variety of birds. All was clean and every bed, even in the outdoor boma was fantastically comfortable. I wasn't promised a tent to myself, but that's what I got! Luxury. Lots of hot water and all the shower gels and shampoo you need. I stayed in three camps and loved them all for their quirky, different ways. The standard of care remained absolutely consistent throughout.
What can I say about the food? Outstanding in its variety and quantity. Plenty of local fare such as eland and pap, but chops and roast lamb, too! Homemade cakes for mid-morning and afternoons and unlimited supplies of drinks, including alcoholic ones! You really do have to be there to appreciate the glory of a Botswana sunset with a g and t lovingly poured by one of the guides!
The cooks were just wonderful and one of my favourite moments of the whole trip was when they crept shyly forward one night in the dark before dinner and sang us several traditional songs in the most beautiful harmonic voices. Magical.

How could we improve the quality of pre-holiday information that we send?

I didn't see a mention of a head torch. Absolutely invaluable. Luckily, a friend who'd already been advised me to get one.
Mosquito repellent and other related insect remedies are not needed. 1. They are supplied in the tents. 2. In August, there are virtually no insects and certainly no mosquitoes. I spent quite a bit on decent mossie repellent which I didn't really need.
