Julie who has been on 14 In The Saddle rides. The riding was as advised mainly walk due to the terrain but we did trot and canter on most days. Dallas matched horse with rider very well. The saddles were very comfortable and all tack in good order. Scenery was great. Horses super well schooled, friendly and well behaved. Mordecai was a patient guide and couldn’t do enough to ensure everyone was safe and happy. Jeanette and Dallas were fantastic. I would definitely recommend this holiday.

A wonderful adventure in the mountains with plenty of immersion in Spanish village life and culture | Riding was as expected - mostly at walk due to the nature of the terrain and the heat, with the opportunity to have short canters when on the wider, more flat and open tracks. There were a lot of times when it was necessary to lead the horses, both ascending and descending the mountain paths. Mounting and dismounting on both sides, sometimes on narrow tracks, is a necessary part of the trip, so it's good to be practised at this and be fairly walking fit with good, non slip short boots.

Everything I had hoped for and more | It was abundantly obvious that the horses were very loved and well cared for by the way they approached you of their own free-will (for a fuss) and their calm demeanor around people and each other. Mine (Apollo) was a true grent and I felt at ease with him as soon as I mounted up in the saddle. I could not have asked for a better, kinder, gentle horse.
I know it was hot, but a couple more canters would have been nice - perhaps as the ride drew to a close each day. The canters were so well balanced and you felt so "as one" with your beautiful horse that to experience it a few more times would have been lovely. There were enough "flat" areas to do this.
It was good to see that the horses got a chance to rest after an exertive stretch and had their saddles and bridles off at lunchtime and they got our left over bread after lunchtime too - you could tell this is the "norm" because they all looked expectantly" at us as we cleared our picnic away!

Jette Vestergaard (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) We rode in the most amazing nature in beautiful sunshine. The trip was really well put together, where we came over new mountains every day. Dallas (the guide) had homemade lunch for us every day, which we ate while the horses rested. Really nice ride with competent guides, who had a lot of focus on the safety of both the riders and the horses.

The riding was suitable for experienced riders - I think a novice might struggle a bit. The horses were really forward going, surefooted, fit and well. We were out for about 7 hours a day which suited me 🙂

Awe inspiring trail ride | Having done a 3 day- Sulayr ride with Dallas last October I had booked onto this longer high level route hoping for great views and long days in the mountains-I was not disappointed and the horses were as amazing and sure footed as ever!

Not a fast ride as the terrain is rough and difficult at times. We always had help if needed with mounting and usually plenty of rocks about.

It is important to be walking fit and agile as you have to lead your horse down some very steep paths.

An amazing experience where I felt I could really bond with my horse and feel at one with the superb countryside.

Beautiful horses, stunning surroundings, delicious food | We were rising over rocky paths, riding up and down hill, but if possible we had lovely trots and canters. The horses were great in finding their own way. They were trustworthy, but not at all boring.

Judith who has been on 19 In The Saddle rides. Love the Sierra Nevada | I wanted to visit the Alpujarra’s after reading Chris Stewart’s books about El Valero. The scenery did not disappoint and I’m in awe of how Dallas and her very small team run these trails with great efficiency. Glad that I’d done a bit of my own fitness training as there was plenty of leading up and down shaly and often steep paths. The washed out arroyo we had to cross was made easier by letting the horses go by themselves with us going ahead to catch them at the other side. Quite an adventure. June was perfect, still some wildflowers in bloom and not too hot due to the altitude with one very heavy rain. Saddles were comfortable as promised and please mention if you want to use your seatsaver before horses get tacked up on the first morning.

Laura (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Amazing mountain views on lovely well-trained horses | Due to the mountainous terrain and the long hours at a walk i did hike next to my horse quite a bit so as to not get sore. There were brief trots and canters but most of the time we were going up and down with magical views.

The horses were so safe that i took videos at the canter. They were so sure footed that they never tripped. The saddle was very comfortable and i was never sore.

Nila (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Amazing trip and wonderful horses! | This was my first riding vacation, and I had the best time on this trip! The horses were magnificent, very well cared for, and a pleasure to ride. The trails we went on were breathtaking, and while the pace was slower for most of the ride, the terrain kept the ride very interesting. Some of my favorite parts were when we had to get off and lead the horses through some of the trails as you had to really trust your horse and your own two feet. Dallas Love is an exceptional host and horsewoman. It is clear that her horses' wellbeing and safety are extremely important to her, and it was a pleasure getting to know her and the rest of her team. We had a great group on the trip of mixed ages and backgrounds. The house we stayed in was clean well kept, and had everything I needed. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone interested!

Julie who has been on 5 In The Saddle rides. It was wonderful - a very special place | The whole experience was wonderful. The horses are so well cared for and very well behaved. There was a fair amount of trot and canter, more than I had been expecting as we were riding so high up, so that was a plus. There was of course a lot of up and down, and a fair amount of leading, but that was never a problem as soon as my lungs adjusted to the altitude! The horses are all used to the ascents and descents which a lesser horse would refuse to do. I loved how relaxed the riding was, with no bossing or fuss about riding in a certain order and it was fine when appropriate to ride two abreast. The horses weren't bothered by much and are fit and happy. I am not a frequent rider and was impressed with the help and support I was always given by Dallas and her brother. It says a huge amount about this establishment that while we were there, two ladies who had spent time working with Dallas in the past, had returned and were instantly welcomed and became part of the place again. I had so much respect for every aspect of this wonderful set up. In spite of some challenging weather on the last day which actually turned into an adventure. The whole trip was enhanced by the great good fortune I had in riding with a group of the most wonderful ladies. They and Dallas, her brother, and the horses, made everything into such a fun and memorable experience.

The accommodation was beautiful and clean. The villages were beautiful, the villagers were friendly and so very houseproud! Our hostess, Dallas was knowledgeable and passionate about her country. The horses were so very well cared for in fact the best I have seen. Dallas knew each and everyone inside out. They are a credit to her.
The food was outstanding and I would recommend anyone to go. Although, you must be able to walk uneven ground easily.

Richard who has been on 7 In The Saddle rides. A lovely way to experience a grand and historic area of the Sierra Nevada | We were matched with lovely experienced horses. Dallas guided us on several varied trail rides, each with wonderful views. Dallas' knowledge of the area and her horsemanship are exceptional - and she makes a great picnic lunch. A lot of the trails are taken at walking pace, with some requiring the rider to dismount and lead the horse, but there were stretches where a faster pace, trot of canter, was possible.

Andrea (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) A very nice exciting horse ride trip through beautiful nature | The guide had a lot of experience and trust everybody and the horses in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada and all the exciting situations we had there. We had nice hotels and good dinner. The horses were well educated and strong for climbing in the mountains.

Memorable and great fun | As anticipated this ride was slow due to the terrain with quite a lot of on foot walking where terrain very steep.However some cantering days 2 and 3 and well worth the ride to cross the high Sierra Nevada. Horses sure footed , picnics delicious , views amazing and you really were off the beaten tracks. We keep talking about our Spanish adventure. We loved being in the mountains and the two villages, Bubion and Trevelez, were fascinating.The horses were well schooled so could relax and enjoy the countryside eg picked their way over rough terrain, you just gave them a long rein, in canter went into a rhythm and did not pull so can just sit still with light contact, when leading they walked behind and did not tread on you !

Dallas Love, the leader was very experienced and her horses were well trained and lovely to ride. She took care to ensure we knew what lay ahead and ensured her horses were ok. The getting on and off for short periods of walking when the terrain was two steep or slippy to ride on helped to reduce stiffness. Lunches with a spot of merlot on the mountainside were delicious.

Consideration was given to the work load on the horses going downhill, and they were given adequate rest when going uphill.
