Iben who has been on 6 In The Saddle rides. I was very happy with "my" horse, who was a determined lady who could show what she thinks and is also good at cooperating both from the ground and in the saddle. Thank you Soley, for a fantastic trip 🙂 All the horses on our trip were in great condition, and clearly well-balanced physically and mentally. My saddle was perfect for a long trip, the rest of the tack was exactly as it should be.
The riding was as described. You ride mostly in walk as both the distances and the nature require, but there can be a solid pace at a walk. The guide was also good at guiding when there was an opportunity for a brisk tölt or canter.

Hannah (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Amazing and unique experience trekking through the Swedish Arctic Circle | The whole experience on this trip was fantastic. I was so surpised with how amazing the food was, each meal was cooked for us by our guide Kerstin, and we helped to do other camp chores. We tried moose and reindeer meat with soups, pastas, potatoes, and bread. All very flavourful and each meal had a desert!
The riding was terrific. We were so lucky that the weather was good and each day we packed up our saddle bags and trekked out into the wilderness and open terrain. I loved my horse so much and icelandic horeses are very tolerant and hardy for the trip. Setting up camp for lunch each day was fun, and we had to put a little fence arounf the horses whilst they ate. It was lovely to watch, we were in the middle of nowhere with all these horses and delicious food. Sleeping in the Lavvu was a great experience, also learning about the Sami culture.

Alisha who has been on 3 In The Saddle rides. A proper wilderness experience | Yes the ponies were just delightful and each one a character. It was great to see them all functioning as a group. It was impressive to watch Kristen fix horse shoes in transit. We all enjoyed understanding how to get our ponies to tolt. Everyone really enjoyed the hands-on nature of the holiday and being responsible for your horse, particularly for those of us who don't get that opportunity in normal life. My horse care and handling confidence has definitely gone up.
[Becky from In The Saddle replies: This is wonderful to hear, we are so pleased you enjoyed the Icelandic horses and the riding as well as the horse care.]

Sally who has been on 2 In The Saddle rides. Amazing adventure with amazing people! | The information provided by In the Saddle was exactly what we got and Becky gave us a first hand account of what to expect. It was an amazing experience in beautiful country and we learnt a great deal about the Sami culture and people from our trip leader Kerstin. The horses were all very well looked after and cared for and the trip was extremely well organised. The accommodation was basic and as described in In the Saddle's literature, and the food delicious with the majority of meals being cooked on open fires. The 5 days were full on as you are expected to help with all the cooking chores and looking after the horses. We were out in the forests and on the hills with incredible views for the majority of the day and riding for about 4-5 hours. Would definitely recommend.

Cathy who has been on 53 In The Saddle rides. Adventures in the arctic | All the horses were in excellent condition and very willing. Mine was fun to ride, tolted and cantered easily. The herd was easy to catch and handle. The tack fitted well, was comfy for horse and rider. This is not a fast ride but the scenery is breathtaking. By going in July I experienced the 24 hours of daylight and the midnight pastel soft light is so special.

Sally (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Magical experience | I loved this holiday because the horses care and well being was priority, we got teamed up with our horse (perfect matches for everybody) and we were responsible for grooming, checking and tacking up our horses which I loved as you form such a close bond with your horse, by the end of the ride we were all lying down in the field with our sleeping horses, it was fantastic. The horses were very well trained but didn't just follow in line like riding school horses, they each had very individual characters which shone through showing that the horses are content and happy.
[Becky from In The Saddle replies: I'm so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed the riding and the horses - they are wonderful aren't they.]

Karina (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Kerstin was a fantastic guide. In addition to riding in fantastic terrain, we gained a lot of knowledge about the area and the Sami's challenges and way of life both in the past and today. An experience for life.

Amy who has been on 15 In The Saddle rides. Satisfyingly peaceful yet still a great adventure | We had some very novice riders along, unfortunately, and we spent a Lot of time waiting for them to tack up, cross water, etc. Horses were happy to eat while waiting but it was still frustrating. Luckily we were never in a hurry but it would have been nice if the guide had addressed the issue. I absolutely was in love with my horse and would have brought him home! All the horses took very good care of us and I’m continually impressed by the Icelandics’ attitude, personality, sure-rootedness and charm.

Sophie who has been on 4 In The Saddle rides. Sweden - Ratekjokk Trail | It was very different from my previous trips. Only due to the fact that you were more involved in horse care, food prep, washing up etc.
I always enjoy the no facilities part of it, makes it more back to basics. Washing in a freezing cold river, sitting by a camp fire is just refreshing and I love it.

Dorinda (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Amazing horses, weather, beautiful nature, great guides | My horse was very fit, a great match with me, they really noticed my preferences. All the horses of the group where really well matched, everybody loved there horses! They really cared about there well being and we learned how to massage them which I found very nice. The nature was unbelievable beautiful.
