Emma (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) The riding in eSwatini was absolutely fantastic. However, it is important to be aware of the difference between "canter" and "gallop", where you were only allowed to "canter" which is a calmer gallop. Mostly so that you don't have the hope of galloping wildly and fast.
When we arrived at KaMsholo's we were allowed to gallop more and faster, as the terrain there is flat.

Energetic, fun and relaxing. | The daily format is great but over the week becomes a bit predictable - not just the timings, but even the frequency and length of canters, albeit modified by wildlife sightings. I guess I'm a fan of the variety of trail rides.
Mostly single-file, but realistically that was dictated by the fairly high grass and density of vegetation.

Laura (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Fantastic food, wine and scenery, generous hosts, fit horses | The scenery is beautiful and very varied. The ride has been well-planned to incorporate a range of terrain, paces and activities. We rode through mountain scenery, vineyards, pine forests and small villages, with wonderful views throughout. The horses were remarkably fit - full of energy throughout the day - and there were opportunities for short, fast canters when the weather and terrain allowed.
A lot is packed into the week beyond the riding, including winery tours and a Macedonian pie-making workshop, which gives a nice insight into Macedonian culture.

My horse was a sure-footed mountain horse who was fast but easily controllable. The horses were full of energy all day, from the start of the week until the very end. There were a few canter opportunities each day, but they tended to be fairly short. Mostly the riding was at a fast walk.

Ruth who has been on 4 In The Saddle rides. Perfect Spanish riding holiday | Just back from a wonderful riding holiday at Los Alamos, southern Spain. The horses were superb - forward going, well-trained, obedient and seemed to love the long canters and gallops as much as I did!

We rode out in the mornings, for about 4 hours in the forest/national park and also on the beach. Accompanied/led by our expert guides, Jose, Roberto, Laura. Then time for a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, followed by well-earned relaxation back at the beautiful farmhouse, by the pool.

A top-notch riding establishment to which I shall most definitely return - thank you to everyone at Los Alamos for the best riding holiday experience ever.

Each one has been different and this being no exception. The horses were of very high quality and the big five were certainly a thrill to see!
I would recommend though that anyone wanting to ride on this particular holiday is very experienced as the terrain is often off the beaten track and so your balance is definitely needed.
The horses were kept in very clean and tidy conditions and it was lovely to see all the tack cleaned daily.
It was also lovely to eat evening dinner and lunch with the hosts and full team 😉

Restorative and peaceful with exhilarating riding and wonderful hospitality. | The horses are beautifully cared for by the entire team. We were perfectly matched to our horses, and I enjoyed riding several - that was my choice, whilst my companion enjoyed a bromance with a very special horse for most of our time at Moolmanshoek. It was his first visit (my second this year) and it completely exceeded his expectations and he will be back, as will I. Lindy is a highly skilled and hugely knowledgeable leader, and it was a joy to ride with her. Great care was taken to ensure the tack and saddles were well fitting for both horse and rider. We both found the trail saddles and endurance saddles to be very comfortable and each had a sheepskin cover and saddle bags for water bottle (topped up daily by the staff and a mac). The riding is fantastic and very varied - it was such a privilege to ride through the plains, mountains, rivers and pastures that are so lovingly curated by the Nel Family. The game was also very plentiful, we were able to quietly observe them at close quarters from horseback and very quickly spotted all 14 species.

Judith who has been on 19 In The Saddle rides. Sun and storm | Storm Claudia and other cancellations whittled us down to two riders for the Friday beach ride. Happy to say my waterproofs kept me dry through the worst rain I think I've ever ridden in.

Rosamund who has been on 3 In The Saddle rides. Riding Lusitano horses in the classical Portuguese style | This was my third visit to Equitação de Alcainca. The horses are well trained as schoolmasters, however, they do test the rider if incorrect aids are used. I find this the perfect way to improve my own riding as I aim to become a better equestrian.
Our instructor, Ivan, has excellent English and gradually builds on the lessons. I completely trust his relationship with the horses and I felt confident that he knew my ability and how to push me that bit further.
The trip to Golega was really special with a genuine insight into Portuguese culture. It was well organised and we enjoyed the carriage ride with Telmo’s two stallions. There was plenty to see in the main arena and also the indoor arena where there were ‘clinics’ training young horses.

From accommodation to food to riding and all the staff that make sure every day runs smoothly. I can honestly say my time in Bush Willow and Ants Nest was superb in every way. A fantastic holiday, brilliant horses, lots of game, great guides and hosts. | I had been a bit nervous prior to going on the holiday as I'm used to just riding my own steady Welsh cob. But I needn't have worried, the horses were brilliant. I started off on something slow and steady. The guides were very good at checking if we were happy with our horses (which I always was) and with my feedback they gradually progressed me on to slightly more forward going horses. I always felt very safe and comfortable, which was the priority for me.

Wonderful place, amazing wildlife and terrific horses - can't stop coming back here.... | It's a thrilling experience to be able to ride so close to the wildlife and to have the opportunity to just hang out with dazzles of zebra, towers of giraffe and (from a respectful distance) a crash of rhinos or a herd of buffalo. We were visiting as a group and the riding was matched to our wishes.

Rachel (this is their first In The Saddle holiday) Lovely short ride | The riding matches the description - you don't go too far from the farm. But this is perfect for the time of year - it would have been much too cold to go on longer rides, and the guide was excellent in talking about the area.

Clare who has been on 6 In The Saddle rides. A wonderful week | The riding element of the holiday was excellent. We were a family of 6, with 4 regular riders aged 11 - 69. So it was great that we could all be offered appropriate safe horses, with good tack and led by excellent knowledgeable guides every day. There was a lot of flexibility around our daily requirements and we always came back from our rides ( usually 2 per day) with smiles on our faces, and amazing stories to tell, about what we had seen and done.
The lovely horses were very well cared for, fit for the work, and naturally generous and kind in their nature. They were well trained for the job and remained calm and safe at all times. The sight of rhinos and giraffe were just part of their daily routine!
