Damara Ride - Namibia

Damara Elephant Safari

Vivien who has been on 37 In The Saddle rides. Damaraland - stunning | I was matched with the perfect horse for me (Schnapps) and rode her everyday throughout the holiday. The scenery was unbelievably breath-taking, so beautiful and vast it's hard to describe. We did some fast canters and gallops when the landscape opened out which were so much fun. Couldn't keep the smile off my face (inner cowgirl definitely emerged!). The other guests were great company too, all topped off by the new addition of little Woody, the camp puppy who joined us for this ride.

[Abbie from In The Saddle replies: I am so pleased that you enjoyed your return visit to Namibia. It is such a special experience - thank you for taking the time to share your feedback].

Rebecca who has been on 7 In The Saddle rides. World class horses, fast and super safe on their hooves. Tried 3 different horses, all amazing in their own way. And the horses are well taken care of.

Claudia who has been on 6 In The Saddle rides. Namibia - Damara Ride | This is an adventure to remember. What an amazing country Namibia is!

Extremely fit, well looked after horses riding across an ever changing landscape from dry river beds through magnificent canyons, across what seems like the surface of the moon, through tall reed beds and ending up on the wild but beautiful skeleton coast. This is a fast ride with lots and lots of canters and gallops in open order with loose horses accompanying you, so yes you need to be riding fit and experienced - you are expected to look after your horse and absolutely must be able to ride with a light seat and hand especially in the faster paces - this is not a novice ride!

You must be honest about the type of horse you want to ride and your own riding capabilities and you will be matched with a hardy and equally adventurous companion for the duration of the trip. Mostly you stick with one horse so you know each other well by the end of the ride which only adds to the experience.

Tack is trail saddles with simple bridles and halters/lead ropes, you are expected to groom and tack up your horse - under the watchful eyes of Andrew and Telane!

Andrew is a fantastic guide, experienced, calm with a dry humour and excellent horsemanship - you will have no problem putting your fatih in him or the wonderful back up team so do them a favour by listening and obeying their instructions, mucking in and bring your sense of humour and adventure - as with any of these types of rides the more you are willing to put in the more you will get out and you will hopefully meet a great group of like minded individuals who you will see in the saddle again - we certainly did!
