The Coast to Coast Ride is a trail ride in the very north of North Island taking you from the east coast of Northland at Pakiri beach, to end up on the west coast at Muriwai.
You start on the beautiful white sandy beaches at Pakiri, then head inland across farmland and through forests to finish on the black sandy beach on the west coast at Muriwai.
This ride has it all, from long stretches of uninhabited beach to steep hill climbing, pine forest plantations and typical New Zealand sheep and cattle farms.
New Zealand is known for it's friendly, hospitable people and you will certainly meet some when on the trail. You will also learn something about the Maori culture and history of New Zealand.
Your hosts Sharley and Laly Haddon have lived in this area for many years and the land has been in Laly's family for generations. Laly has farmed cattle for most of his time here and is a well known figure in the community, not only to the farming community but also to the local Maori population.
Sharley has put her stamp on the area with her riding centre and horse base. She also breeds beautiful grey Arabians for showing, riding and endurance. The horses for the trail ride are a mixture of breeds and Sharley has chosen them over the years for their kind temperaments and surefootedness. Tack is simple snaffle bridles and New Zealand stock saddles.
Accommodation on the trail varies from a simple beach house to homestays. The normal group size varies between two and six riders.
