This game reserve is situated at the base of the Waterberg escarpment. On this fertile plain you see large herds of plains game that would not normally occur in Southern Africa's bushveld areas. It is not uncommon to see herds of antelope together with eight or nine rhino all in the same small area. It provides a truly magical game experience and there may be opportunities to canter with some of the game if the right conditions prevail. There are also long sandy tracks perfect for faster riding.
Species to be seen include not only rhino, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, ostrich and two species of zebra but also over twenty species of antelope, including the impressive eland, the endangered sable and the dainty steenbok and springbok. You typically have an early morning ride for three to four hours and then a late afternoon ride to enable you to see the most game and to avoid riding in the heat of the day.
You stay in a stone and thatch hunting lodge, set high on a ridge overlooking a hippo-filled lake, with spectacular views across the plains. There are three twin rooms and two single rooms, a dining area with veranda over the lake and a plunge pool.
Since Dinaka safari lodge is less than an hour's drive from Horizon it combines well with a holiday at Horizon or the safari can be booked completely separately.
