The Riding :: Using a scale of 5 = excellent/very much so, to 1 = poor/not at all

The riding was just right for me. There was a chance to enjoy the surroundings while walking, some long canters and a few fast and exciting sections. The dawn gallop on the beach was brilliant!

Accommodation :: Use a scale of 5 = excellent, to 1 = poor

The breakfasts were good. The long barbecue lunches with wine (and shade) were excellent and came at the best time of the day when it would've been quite hot to ride. Dinner was usually very good but it would have been nice to have a little more choice.

Yes.

Location: In the Alentejo region of Portugal, south of Lisbon. The Dolphin trail is a circular trail whilst the Coastal trail is a linear trail - both are near the coast. Nearest airport is Lisbon.
Weather: Pleasant nearly all year round, with coastal breezes ensuring it is never too hot.

The Riding

Your horses are the beautiful and calm Lusitano. They are well schooled and comfortable to ride with an enthusiastic walk and easy collected canter.
You should be a confident rider at walk, trot and canter. It is important to be fit enough for the long canters in the heat of the Portuguese sunshine.... more »

My top tip: During the summer months the beach ride is at dawn - literally! So expect an early start on this day and, with luck, a spectacular sunrise.
