On a farm in the heart of the picturesque Alto Alentejo region of Portugal you can improve your riding and relax in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

Sanguinheira has a mixture of pure bred Lusitanos and Lusitano crosses and can cater for all levels of riding ability. Competent riders may have lessons on the more higly schooled horses while novice riders can improve their general riding skills on quieter mounts. Group lessons are limited to two people but it is possible to pay extra for private lessons. Families are welcome and a riding programme can be put together to suit your specific needs. Non riders are also welcome, though we recommend a hire car so that you can explore the surrounding area.

In addition to, or instead of, lessons you may choose to enjoy the surrounding area on horseback. On the trail rides you ride past cork oaks, sweet-scented eucalyptus and citrus groves. Passing through local villages you often see farmers still tending their land by hand. The rides are tailored to the ability of the riders. Experienced riders can enjoy fast riding where the terrain allows.

The renovated farmhouse and stable complex is family owned and run and provides comfortable accommodation for guests in self contained holiday cottages. The cottages have a living room, kitchen and two or three bedrooms each with private bathroom.

Everything is provided for you to prepare your own breakfast. Lunch and dinner are taken around a large table in the central farmhouse, where traditional Portuguese dishes and wines are served.
If you don’t have time to stay for a full week then we also offer four night short breaks which can start on any day.
