As you ride you have views of the beaches of Cape Trafalgar and across to the coast of Africa. This is a quiet, peaceful part of the country which has so far escaped any mass tourism and you will be riding in rural Spain where life has remained unchanged for centuries.
Each day's ride will be different to include routes through the forest with its long sandy tracks, into the countryside along ancient drovers' trails and onto the long sandy beaches which stretch for over ten kilometres. If visiting in mid summer you should be aware that beach rides cannot be guaranteed.
This is Spain and you are on holiday, so the day does not start too early. For most of the year there is an average of four hours in the saddle each day. This is broken up by lunch in small friendly country hostelries whilst the horses relax in the shade. In the hotter summer months you ride for approximately three hours, arriving back at the villa just after midday for lunch, so you have lots of time to relax around the pool and soak up the warm summer sun.
Thursday is a rest day for the horses and you visit the Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art in Jerez to see a display by the stallions and carriage driving. Later visit the school's carriage museum and stables and have a tapas lunch and sherry tasting.
Your home for the week is the lovely hacienda 'Jacaranda' named after the beautiful Jacaranda trees. It is set in spacious gardens with palm, cactus and fruit trees. All rooms are en-suite and the villa has a swimming pool (not heated). It also has a spacious dining area and comfortable lounge where you can relax in comfort after the day’s ride.
Ingredients are provided for you to make your own breakfast and the villa is stocked with a reasonable supply of beer, wine and spirits for the week. Dinners are either delicious home made food at the villa or meals out at small village restaurants.
Special Train and Ride weeks are available on certain dates throughout the year. These combine full and half day rides from Los Alamos with three one hour lessons with Antonio Corales, a top Doma Vaquero who trained at the School of Equestrian Art in Jerez. Please see the Los Alamos Train and Ride page for more details.
