Treat yourself to a riding holiday at this country club hotel just north of Rome. The equestrian centre has extensive show-jumping and cross-country facilities and a range of experienced horses.
I Due Laghi is situated about an hour north of Rome between the lakes of Bracciano and Martignano. The estate and surrounding countryside offer some great riding and a wealth of history - Etruscan tombs, ancient Roman paved roads, fortified medieval villages and renaissance manor houses.
The riding establishment, situated within the hotel grounds, was the first in Italy to be given British Horse Society approval. The extensive stables house a good selection of horses ranging in size from 14hh ponies to 18hh Irish hunters. There are impressive facilities including two large all-weather arenas, a comprehensive show-jumping arena and a cross-country course. The hotel estate extends to some 360 acres.
Throughout the year the Riding in the Estate week long programme offers a total of 18 hours riding which can be a combination of instruction, show jumping, cross-country and hacking over the estate.
If time is short, three or four night short breaks can be arranged and experienced riders may like to take part in the drag hunt from October to May.
The hotel has 25 en-suite rooms. A further seven suites each have their own entrance to the garden. The food and wines offered by the restaurant are excellent and a real highlight of the holiday. Please note that the half-board option has a set menu, but if you prefer you can choose from the a la carte menu (additional cost).
There is a swimming pool open in summer and the Wellness Centre offers welcome relaxation after a day in the saddle.
I Due Laghi is an ideal base for non-riders, although you would probably find a rental car necessary. Activities available locally include fishing and sailing on Lake Bracciano, golf (at a selection of local courses), guided hikes and bike tours, and cooking classes. Rome is only an hour away by train and you are encouraged to visit this amazing city on your non-riding day.
